THE PROBLEM & THE FIX

Device-Locked VMS Solutions Cost More and Deliver Less

Six problems that arise when your visitor management system only runs on one platform and exactly how Vizitor's cross-platform approach eliminates each one.

iPad-Only or Android-Only VMS
With Vizitor Cross-Platform VMS
Forced to buy Apple hardware only
Single-platform apps lock you into expensive iPads even when cheaper Android tablets exist
Use any tablet you already own
Vizitor runs on iPad, iPad mini, Samsung, Lenovo, and any Android tablet from the last 5 years
Different features on different OS
Android builds often lag behind iOS in features, leaving some offices with a broken experience
Identical feature set on both platforms
Every feature: offline mode, badge printing, NDA signing, photo, host notification, all identical on iOS and Android
No offline mode for network outages
When Wi-Fi drops, the check-in kiosk goes down and visitors cannot be processed at all
Offline check-in on both platforms
Visitors check in without internet. Data syncs automatically when connection is restored, nothing is lost
Complex MDM restrictions
IT teams struggle to enrol single-platform devices into existing MDM solutions for security policy compliance
Works with Apple MDM and Android MDM
Enrol via Apple Business Manager or Android Enterprise. Lock-down kiosk mode available on both platforms
Hardware replacement costs are high
A damaged or outdated iPad costs significantly more to replace than equivalent Android hardware
Replace with any available tablet
If a device breaks, swap in any compatible tablet in minutes. No proprietary hardware dependency
Multi-site inconsistency
Different offices buy different hardware, ending up with different app versions and inconsistent visitor experiences
Consistent experience across all sites
One Vizitor account manages all locations. All devices: iPad or Android, deliver the same branded check-in screen

Vizitor supports all iPad models running iPadOS 14 or later. This includes iPad (6th generation and newer), iPad mini (5th generation and newer), iPad Air (3rd generation and newer), and all iPad Pro models. The app is optimised for both portrait and landscape orientation, and supports all iPad screen sizes from the 8.3-inch iPad mini to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

There are two approaches. For quick setup, enable Apple's built-in Guided Access feature under Settings, then open Vizitor and triple-click the side button to lock the screen to the app. For enterprise deployments, enrol the iPad in Apple Business Manager and use your MDM to push a Single App Mode profile that automatically locks the device to Vizitor on startup. The MDM approach requires no manual step per device.

Yes. Vizitor for iPad supports AirPrint-compatible badge printers and dedicated label printers connected over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Compatible printers include Brother QL series, Zebra ZD series, and Dymo LabelWriter 450. After check-in, badges are printed automatically without any staff action. Badge design, fields, and QR code inclusion are all configurable from the admin dashboard.

Yes. Vizitor is available for zero-touch deployment through Apple Business Manager. IT teams can add Vizitor to their volume purchase programme, push it to all enrolled iPads remotely, apply a Single App Mode MDM profile, and have every kiosk live without touching a single device physically. This is the recommended approach for organisations with five or more iPad kiosks across multiple locations.

Vizitor supports any Android tablet running Android 8.0 (Oreo) or above. Tested and certified devices include Samsung Galaxy Tab A and Tab S series, Lenovo Tab M and P series, and Huawei MediaPad T and M series. The app adapts to screen sizes from 8 inches to 13 inches and supports both portrait and landscape kiosk configurations. Most Android tablets from 2019 onwards are compatible.

Vizitor includes a built-in kiosk lock for Android that uses Android's Screen Pinning feature to prevent visitors from exiting the app. For enterprise deployments, enrol the tablet in Android Enterprise using your MDM (Microsoft Intune, VMware Workspace ONE, or Jamf) and apply a Dedicated Device profile. Vizitor will automatically launch in kiosk mode on startup without any manual configuration per device.

Yes. Vizitor maintains 100% feature parity across iOS and Android. Every feature available on iPad is identically available on Android: visitor self check-in, photo capture, NDA and document signing, badge printing, host notifications, offline mode, watchlist screening, pre-registration, and visitor analytics. Both apps are released simultaneously and we do not allow feature gaps between platforms.

Yes. Badge printing from Android tablets works via Bluetooth-paired or Wi-Fi-connected label printers. Compatible printers include Brother QL series and Zebra ZD series connected over the local network. After a visitor completes check-in on the Android tablet, the badge is automatically sent to the printer without requiring any staff action. Badge templates are configured centrally and apply to all devices including Android.

Yes. You can run iPad and Android kiosks simultaneously in the same office or across different locations, all managed from one Vizitor admin account. Visitor data, check-in records, and analytics are shared across all devices regardless of platform. You might deploy an iPad Pro at the main reception and a lower-cost Android tablet at a secondary entrance, with both showing the same branded check-in screen and feeding the same visitor log.

When the tablet loses internet connectivity, Vizitor automatically switches to offline mode. Check-ins continue normally: visitor details are captured, photos taken, NDAs signed, and badges printed locally. All data is queued on the device and syncs automatically to the cloud the moment the connection is restored, with no duplicate records or data loss. Offline mode works identically on both iOS and Android with no configuration required.

All tablets: iPad and Android across all locations, are managed from a single Vizitor admin dashboard. Each location can have its own workflow, branding, NDA documents, badge design, and visitor categories. Changes made in the dashboard push to all devices automatically without requiring manual app updates on individual kiosks. Location-specific and aggregate reporting are both available from the same admin panel.

Yes. Vizitor encrypts all visitor data in transit using TLS 1.3 and at rest using AES-256 encryption, regardless of the device platform. Offline data stored locally on the tablet is encrypted using the device's native secure storage. GDPR-compliant data retention policies, visitor data deletion requests, and access controls all apply uniformly to both iOS and Android devices. The admin dashboard provides a full audit log of all access events across your device fleet.
